Barcelona startup funding: Q3 💰

We’re back with a breakdown of all the Barcelona funding rounds we’ve tracked in Q3 and so far this year.

👉 TL;DR: Q3 was a bit of a rollercoaster with early success, an expected summer pause, and a moderate recovery to end the quarter on a positive note. BCN startups raised 33% of Spain’s total funding.

Barcelona’s total for Q3 was €229.8M, over 29 rounds. That’s 33% of Spain’s total of €705.4M, but still a solid outcome 💪 historically (2023’s Q3 total was €261.5M)—even if heavily dependent on a few big deals in July, like Exoticca’s €60M and Wallbox’s €40M+.
July led with a spike 📈 of €155M across 19 rounds, suggesting several large deals were likely closed before the Spanish August slowdown. The number of rounds was also good, tying with February as the most active month for deal flow this year.
Biotech & healthtech 🧪 were the most funded industries in Q3 (over 42% of BCN startups fell into these categories), followed by fintech, foodtech, proptech, and mobility.
